This is a project to be done with leftover fabric as very little is needed to make a beautiful and very personal turban headband.

You know that big box you keep at the back of the wardrobe or in the basement full of scraps of fabric left over from your sewing projects?

Here, you can draw on that to make these modelling bands! All you need to do is find a good cotton, non-stretchy and slightly firm.

Choose two fabrics that go well together: it can be a floral or geometric pattern with a solid colour, or two patterned fabrics coordinated in tone.

Add a piece of wire and you're ready to sew your own turban!

What you need:

15cm (6") x 112cm (44") 100% cotton fabric for one side

15cm (6") x 112cm (44") of 100% cotton fabric for the other side

110cm (43") of 2mm (0.08") diameter iron (or aluminium) wire

Scissors, pins, thread and sewing machine!

1. Start by sewing the two pieces of fabric along one of the longer sides, right sides together.
2. At a distance of 1 cm (0.8") from the first seam, make a second one.

3. Then close one of the shorter sides
4. Bend the ends of the wire so that they do not pierce the fabric.

5. Insert the wire from the short side left open, passing it between the two seams we have made.
6. Close the other short side

7. Close the longest open side, leaving an open space near the centre.
8. Turn the band right side out through the opening we have left.

9. Pull out the corners well
10. Sew the remaining opening by hand

I have not made a video tutorial for this project because there are so many on YouTube. BUT I have selected 3 of the best video tutorials for making a mouldable turban headband. Eccoli:

(they are in italian but each step is very clearly presented visually!)
